Project Guatemala
Project Guatemala began in 2019 in a village in the middle of the mountains in the northwest of the country. The village of Las Brisas is an area with dangerous roads where almost no one wants to go. The language spoken is Qʼanjobʼal (is a Mayan language spoken primarily in Guatemala) and Spanish.
A small church was planted in previous years and Pastor Francisco Garcia, who lives far away, can only go a couple of times a month. He sees to it that families are discipled and prepared to serve. Your hard work and sacrifice are worth it as you see the interest of the people to know more of the word of God. His passion for souls goes beyond the difficulties that may arise. Without imagining what God had in store, they continued to grow, waiting on God and his provision.
One day they received a visit from a church that brought clothes and toys for the children and they sent us a video. When Tomás saw the situation, it was inevitable for him to remember his childhood and realize that there are still children who, like him, needed a good pair of shoes. The memory of not wearing shoes until the age of seven and feeling that he could understand those children touched the bottom of his heart and it was then that a thought came: “A pair of shoes could brighten a child’s soul.”
With that in mind, the next trip was made with the purpose of drawing a smile on the faces of these children with a toy. To our surprise from that visit, ten children accepted Christ and received their first bible; some still couldn’t read. The smile that they had on their face, God provoked by sending his servants to proclaim the gospel in a loving way to all these families in a very distant place.
The purpose of the Guatemala Project is that God would guide each family that wants to join the project and share what he gives us with another Guatemalan family, showing them the love that is within us by the grace of Jesus Christ. Be it a pair of shoes, bibles, clothes or donations to receive food, medicine, support to build houses for the homeless; but above all, our prayers that God continues to show himself in their lives.
We celebrate that since then, GracePointe has been a great blessing to these children and their families. The brothers from Las Brisas village were forced to move to another area where now it is not one place but three meeting places for Bible study to the glory of God. One by one, families are supported to build their home after losing everything during the 2020 landslides. GracePointe families adopted a family and sent shoes and clothes! Pastor Francisco continues forward and is motivated because he feels supported. God has been good.
Our mission is to equip and support workers who love the Gospel of Christ and are working using their own resources to go to those places where no one wants to go. We wish to convey to a new generation that it is better to give than to receive and that there is joy in serving – even at a distance, miracles can be achieved. We must let God touch our hearts to continue directing us in everything He wants to do with us.
Tomás and Myrna want to tell you today that there are no borders or languages when it comes to serving, so let’s say to God: “If nobody wants to go, try me.”
