GP Facility Maintenance Project

March 19, 2024

Dear GracePointe Church Family,

We are privileged to serve with you in our church's mission, “To glorify God by making Disciples who Love God and Love People.” We appreciate all you do in giving your time, talents, and money to the ministry as we pursue our mission together. Critical to our mission is the wise use of our facilities. To that end, we are eager to share with you a special maintenance project for two crucial (but unseen) elements of our facility.

PHASE ONE: New Roof for the Family Wing of Our Building

We have vital and extensive ongoing ministry in the Family Wing (west building), welcoming families on Sunday mornings, Youth Group and Kids Ministry on Wednesday nights, Little Lights Preschool, the church library and more. Part of the current roof is flat and was last resurfaced 40 years ago. The maintenance on a flat roof costs more than a pitched roof and isn’t ideal in this climate. Therefore, once funded, a small pitch will be added to the roof and it will be resurfaced with a vinyl cover that we anticipate lasting another 40 years.

PHASE TWO: Replace/Upgrade the Worship Center Heating and Cooling System

The Worship Center is our primary gathering place for worship, fellowship, teaching, communion, baptisms, child dedications, etc. But we also hold special services and events in the Worship Center including Holy Week, Advent, memorial services, weddings, and conferences. The current HVAC system is significantly outdated with some components over 30 years old. The typical maximum lifespan of an HVAC system is 25 years. We’ve been blessed with skilled volunteers and the Lord’s protection to keep it running as long as it has, but it has been difficult to find parts to repair the existing system. While it is currently operational, aging HVAC systems have a way of surprising you at the moment you need them most. Our goal is to have comfortable temperatures for regular attenders and our guests – which allows all of us to focus on what matters most.

Estimated Costs

The total cost for the two phases of the project is approximately $225,000. We are blessed to have a Charitable Trust matching individual giving dollar for dollar. This means that every $1 you give is actually $2.

It is a long-standing financial practice at GracePointe not to begin a large project without having the funding in place; therefore, we desire to raise enough for Phase One by early summer for work to start and end during our dry season. As mentioned, our current HVAC system can limp along (we hope). While we desire to also complete that phase this summer by having the funds in place, we are ready to postpone that project.

What Can I Do?

We are asking all our members and regular attenders to prayerfully consider making special gifts* to support the project as the Lord leads and provides. Please remember, any donation you make to this project needs to be in addition to your regular giving or our regular ministries might suffer. And we ask that you pray for the Lord’s leading, provision, and empowerment of all our ministries (remembering Ephesians 3:20, “Our God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think”).

*All special gifts should be designated “Facility Maintenance Project”.

The original roof and HVAC were made possible because of the faithful giving of a generation of believers committed to GracePointe's mission. This is our opportunity to invest in our current generation and the next. Though we may not see the roof, we know it is there to help protect (and keep dry) our children, youth, and families. Likewise, though we don’t see the HVAC, we enjoy the comfort it brings to us and our guests.
We are planning a forum on April 21 to answer questions and consider your suggestions. Please feel free to contact any of us anytime with your questions or feedback.
